We were beginning to regret buying a house in Appledore without establishing good support beforehand. Quite serendipitously we came across ‘A Helping Hand’ run by John Padbury. We proceeded cautiously observing his workmanship on a small but very but tricky job at first. His technical skill, thoroughness and overall capability (not to say economic labour costs) won us over and ever since he did the original job we have relied on him for absolutely everything. His experience and ‘old fashion values’ of reliability and doing jobs exactly as he says he will was quite refreshing. I think one can also tell from chatting with him that he has considerable practical experience as well.
We spend quite a bit of time away from the house and often can’t be there when jobs need doing. To this end we have been extremely lucky as John is 100% honest and reliable and looks after the place as if it was his own. We have even given him his own set of keys in case disaster strikes when we’re not there. In terms of jobs done this ranges from minor to major things – many fixtures and fittings (some very complex), structural repairs and renovations (bathroom and kitchen), etc.
